How we work now:

Our Solution (Pivoting)

Event Based Food Solutions

Change in business direction

To liaise with school clubs or halls to cater a food package from them. We will be in charge of administrative procedures to order food and this can save both time and effort for students to hunt for the best food supplier with the budget they have.

Execution

We will start to source for more food suppliers related to food catering. We will also reach out to students in school to see if anyone is looking for food-catering for their events.

Current Situation (Reasons why we want to pivot)

Week 1 Summary

Problems faced:

  1. Location (Hive -- traffic flow was low)
  2. Time factor -- people won’t want to eat onigiri during lunch hours. Most prefer to eat during supper / breakfast
  3. Food item was not halal certified. It was also not catered to vegetarians.

Marketing Strategy to minimize loss in future operation (if continue to proceed with selling at HIVE):

Strategy A: Get orders of onigiri next week then proceed with ordering food the following week.

  1. 21st Jan to 25th Jan -- Heavily market our onigiri by telling everyone to place their orders for Wednesday (30th Jan).
  2. Give out flyers/ update social media: Place an order with us. The more orders we have, the lower we charge your onigiri.
  3. Slash Concept - Create a hype so if eg: $2.50 is usual price. Emphasize that we are trying our best to collate orders for this week to get their onigiris on Wednesday. (Just Wednesday alone) (One day to support us)
  • Every 10 orders minus 5 cents.
  • 10 orders - We charge you at: $2.45
  • 20 - $2.40
  • 30 - $2.35
  • 40 - $2.30
  • 50 - $2.25
  • 60 - $2.20
  • 100 - $2.00

4. However, if we do not hit our internal MOQ number, we will send an apology message and proceed with refund.

Strategy B: Get orders for NEW food item next (Nasi Lemak) next week then proceed with ordering it the following week. (Similar to Strategy A but different food item)

Reasons not to continue

1. The online ordering was not popular to students.

2. Onigiri given from supplier was not Halal and does not cater to vegetarians...

3. The operating time may not accommodate everyone in school.

4. Our manpower is not sufficient to sustain this in the long run.
